Ciao a tutti! Hello everyone!
I am so honored to be joining the Timeless Pilates studio for the next month and to bring to you a freshly curated workshop series, Introduction to Yoga.
I thought I would use this blog post to introduce you a bit to me and my background, as well as provide a more informal description of what you can expect from the workshop that will be running this month from 10 August - 20 August and then again from 1 September - 11 September.
Yoga Teacher visiting from Scotland
I was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was raised there for most of my life. Nobody in my family practiced yoga although I always loved dancing and was always interested in the physical aspect of theatre! I think this is one factor in why yoga resonated with me so strongly.
Another reason was that it allowed me to connect with others from all over the world, and was a practice that is open to any body! Yoga is for everyone. This makes me even more excited to be able to teach yoga here in Lugano with you!
When I began university in Scotland, I found my passion for yoga under guidance of a very special teacher. I only hope that I can do the same for you! Even though I studied for an Art History & International Relations Masters degree, it is the yoga discipline that I am a life-long student of, and by consequence, a dedicated teacher.
What I love about yoga and what I would like for you to take away from it is the fact that it is so much more than a physical practice.
It is a way of life that is also spiritually, intellectually, and mentally stimulating and inspiring. It gives you the tools to develop patience, compassion, acceptance, resilience, and growth.
Nothing gives me greater joy than sharing yoga with YOU, new students and more seasoned yogi practitioners.
I love connecting with you in class, and after as well. Please do reach out, get in touch, and come to the workshop so I can meet you in person and we can discuss your thoughts and questions about yoga and how it can serve you.
The Workshop: Introduction to Yoga
I have specially developed this three-part workshop for the Timeless Pilates studio in mind. I think there are many overlapping features in yoga and pilates, while there are also distinct aspects to each form, and that they complement each other very well.
We all come to yoga from different places and for different reasons.
Maybe you have weak wrists, or stiff hips, or tight hamstrings. Maybe you are really curious but don't know where to start. Maybe you never felt confident trying certain asanas. I want to meet you from this place of origin, and help you better understand your yoga. How can your body respond to certain yoga practices of breathwork, meditation, and asanas?
Together, we will build your confidence in your foundation. By the end of the workshop, I wish for you to leave feeling empowered to continue working with your body through yoga.
Questions & Answers
Q: How is the workshop series structured?
A: Three 1-hour sessions. In the first one we dive deep into basic poses of a simple Surya Namaskar A & B. The second tackles how breath is connected to movement, and how different breathing techniques can be incorporated into your practice. The final workshop is about integrating breath with pose in sequences and transitions of yoga movements - this final one will introduce you to the experience of a 'Vinyasa' yoga flow or class.
Q: Do I need experience?
A: Absolutely not! I created this workshop with complete beginners in yoga. 0 experience needed, 0 prior classes. Of course, if you have experience, even if you are a seasoned yogi, this workshop is open to you. These foundational lessons and core principles are great for any practitioner to revisit and re-evaluate.
Q: How will this workshop benefit me?
A: This workshop eases you into practicing yoga more regularly, and gives you the insight into how your body feels in yoga, and how you need to adjust, situate and position yourself. The detailed understanding of certain poses, and the exposure to some breathing and meditation styles can also harness you with some tools for practicing yoga safely on your own.
On a higher level, because yoga works on this level as well, this workshop may be the change that you need in your life. It may be the beginning of a different path, an invitation of greater balance and strength in your life. It may help you if you are facing challenges and adversity in your life by giving you greater clarity, and allowing you to take the time to nourish your body, mind, and soul.
Q: Do I have to attend all 3 lessons? And do I have to attend in this order?
A: No. Nothing is obligatory here. While we suggest that a beginner take all three workshops for a comprehensive view of the workshop, and we also recommend for the student to take the workshop in this order, we are open to you choosing your own path and practice of yoga. You can schedule for only the second class, or for all 3 in reverse order. It is your yoga and we are here to support and guide.
Q: How do I reserve a spot?
A: Email email@example.com to schedule a time together in the studio space. She aims to respond within 2 hours. Specify whether you are scheduling a private class, a duo class, or group class (3-5 persons) and the date & time of your preference.
Please note that the studio & workshop is only available within the dates of 10-20 August & 1-11 September.
Q: I am not interested in the workshop but would prefer doing a simple yoga class with guidance from Selena. Is that an option?
A: Yes. While Selena is here in Lugano, she is also available for regular vinyasa flow yoga classes and can be contacted by email with the same instructions as the ^^ above answer to book a spot. If you have any specific questions, do not hesitate to let her know!
Thank you so much for reading, and I cannot wait to meet you!
